CHARLESTON, W. Va.–West Virginia is readying for the Nov. 8 General Election.

Secretary of State Mac Warner said traditionally an off-year general election hasn’t had great voter turnout. He said they may be the same this year.

“We want people to participate. No, I’m not expecting a huge turnout but that’s why it’s important that anybody that wants to vote they know what the parameters are,” Warner said during a  appearance on MetroNews “Talkline.”

If fewer people vote the votes of those who do will carry more weight, Warner said.

“Every vote does count but in this election they may count more,” Warner said. “We don’t have the president, the governor or a Senate race, our races start at the congressional level and then they go on down.”

Warner said ‘down ballot’ elections are important.

“They mean the most to people. These are most important races that affect our day-to-day lives,” Warner said.

The Secretary of State’s website, govotewv.com, contains a lot of information, Warner said.

“It has sample ballots. The four amendments are generating a lot of interest across the state especially Amendment 2 but it’s important to know what 1, 3 and 4 are,” Warner said.
