Strangling arrest in Fairmont

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Police in Fairmont have arrested a local man following a report of abuse made from a local gas station.

Police were called to the gas station when called by the employee. The employee told police the unidentified woman came to the gas station to make a phone call when the employee heard her say Jared Hawkins, 35, had “put hands on her.”

When police arrived the revealed she was scared for her life after Hawkins allegedly choked her until she could not breathe on her own. Police say the woman had marks on neck consistent with strangulation.

Hawkins has been charged with strangulation and is being held on North Central Regional Jail.
