MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The redistricting of Monongalia County precincts is officially complete.

Monongalia County Commission, approved changes to the county’s electoral precinct boundary lines, in accordance to changes made on a state level. The changes, were formally approved after they were presented with the updated boundaries by the Monongalia County Clerk’s Office.

“We started working on our precinct changes, persuiant to the legislation passed by the West Virginia Legislature changing the House of Delegate boundary lines and State Senate Boundary lines,” said Monongalia County Clerk Carye Blaney.

The boundary lines changes, were approved by the West Virginia Legislature in late 2021. The changes, will increase the number of county voting precincts from 41 to 43, but reduce the number of voting locations from 29 to 26. The Monongalia County Clerk’s office formalized the precinct changes, where they received no objections from the public.

“We’ve had several phone calls that we fielded for people, but we’ve had no challenges, no complaints and no suggestions for revisions,” said Blaney.

With the approval, the next step is for the Monongalia County Clerk’s Office to update the county’s voter records in accordance to the updated precincts. Once the over 60,000 voter’s new precincts are identified, they will be updated into the county voter registry, with the new precincts also being shown on the County Clerk’s website.

“All of the district changes into one interactive map,” said Blaney about the setup on the website. “Which I believe is the only one that exist throughout the state,” she said.

After the updates are made by the Clerk’s Office, Monongalia County voters will be updated via mail on where their new voting precints are for the upcoming 2022 elections. While no timeframe was given, Blaney stated that they will be alerted in time for you to vote in any elgible West Virginia House of Delegates, Senate, magisterial or executive committee position in upcoming elections.

“We’ve put in our notice to the public, that we will send them a written notice before the next election,” she said.
