Pharmaceutical manufacturing plans

CHARLESTON, W. Va.–A West Virginia native now running a pharmaceutical corporation today announced intentions of establishing a foothold in the state.

“We’re working to bring pharmaceutical manufacturing to West Virginia to supply critical medicines that Americans use every day — so medication for blood pressure, for diabetes, for thyroid,” Crystal Mersh said  on MetroNews’ “Talkline.”

That includes development, along with manufacturing and distributing.

Mersh, the president of Quality Executive Partners, initially made the announcement today at the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce’s Women’s Leadership Summit. She expanded on the initiative today on “Talkline.”

The pharmaceuticals company is called American Medicines Company. Mersh is a Calhoun County native with a chemistry degree from Fairmont State University.

Mersh recently moved back to Calhoun County and has been working on local revitalization projects, including the development of the old high school there into a community center. Meanwhile, she has been laying the groundwork for the pharmaceutical business.

“We have been operating in stealth mode for the past eight months, putting together our business plan, looking at different options for funding strategies, et cetera, and now we are making it public because we’re starting to look at areas where we can locate the business and position our manufacturing sites.”

Mersh said the company is specifically focused on West Virginia.

“Our team feels strongly that West Virginia is the right place for us from a business standpoint and also from a workflow standpoint,” she said.

Much of the work is still under development, Mersh said. “We need to first settle on where our site’s going to be, and then there are some business matters we need to attend so. So it’s a little early to say what the timeframe is going to be.” She added, “But it’ll be as quick as possible, I promise you that.”
