One dead in I-79 crash in Monongalia County

WESTOVER, W.Va. — One person was killed in a Tuesday morning crash on I-79 southbound near the Westover interchange in Monongalia County.

Monongalia County sheriff’s deputies responded at 6:12 a.m. to the wreck involving a passenger car, a dump truck and a West Virginia Courtesy Patrol vehicle.

Investigators believe the driver of the passenger car lost control on the bridge and was hit by the dump truck.

The driver of the car died at the scene, and no other injuries were reported. The crash investigation is ongoing.

The Monongalia County Accident Reconstruction Team, Westover Volunteer Fire Department, Granville Volunteer Fire Department, Granville Police Department, Mon EMS and West Virginia Courtesy Patrol all responded.
