HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Marshall University Athletics Department is asking for help from Thundering Herd fans to determine what the new turf at Joan C. Edwards Stadium will look like.

Marshall Football released three designs , asking fans to interact with each tweet to show support for their favorite design.

All of the designs included the Sun Belt Conference logo on the 25-yard lines, as Marshall Football will play its inaugural season in the conference in 2022. Marshall is leaving Conference USA at the end of the current academic year.

Field Design No 1. has black end zones with a white Marshall spelled in each one with green outlining.

Field Design No. 2 has grey end zones with a green Marshall spelled in each one with black outlining.

Field Design No. 3 has green end zones with a white Marshall spelled in each one with black outlining.

All three designs have the traditional green turf with white lines and a traditional green ‘M’ logo at midfield with the black banner stating ‘The Herd.’

The replacement of the turf is one of the first projects for new Marshall Athletics Director Christian Spears as he has stated the current turf has reached its life expectancy.

The athletic department said  that the annual Green-White spring football game would be played at the Chris Cline Indoor Athletics Complex in part because of the turf installation. The game is scheduled to kick off at 3 p.m. on April 23.

Spears told Herd 24-7 he plans additional beautification projects to the football stadium including new banners and exploring a new video board.

The home opener for Marshall is scheduled for Sept. 3 against Norfolk State. The home slate includes Sun Belt games against Louisiana, Coastal Carolina, Appalachian State, and Georgia State
