Man rescued from lift at WVRC Media-Clarksburg

MOUNT CLARE, W. Va.–A crew constructing a new tower at WVRC Media-Clarksburg on Route 20 in Mount Clare had an equipment failure Friday evening which left an individual trapped in a lift 140 feet in the air.

The crew found out that the problem was a hydraulic hose which had broken.

Attempts to override the equipment failed. Fire and rescue was called to assist. Nutter Fort and Stonewood Fire Departments responded.

Plans for a helicopter rescue were discussed, but later plans changed and a drone was brought in from Morgantown to fly a rope and harness up to the man. The rope was used to help the man to repel to the ground to safety at about 10:30 PM.

He was stranded for several hours.
