GASSAWAY, W. Va.–Kroger said that it will close its store in Gassaway in January.
The store has been located in the Braxton County community for more than 40 years.
Kroger Mid-Atlantic Division President Lori Raya said in a news release that closing any store is difficult and the company takes it seriously.
“This store’s low financial returns made it unfeasible to continue to operate while still upholding our low-price commitment to our customers,” Raya said.
The Gassaway Kroger currently has 52 workers. The 22,900 square foot store first opened in 1979. Kroger said it is the company’s smallest of 109 stores in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Raya said the company’s top priority is helping its workers through the transition.
“We’re grateful for the service and dedication of the associates at the Gassaway store,” she said.
Kroger has 38 stores in 29 West Virginia cities and nearly 3,000 workers. After the closure the next closest closure to Gassaway would be a location in Buckhannon more than 50 miles away
