Hotline set up for civil rights abuses at Hazelton federal prison

KINGWOOD, W. Va.–A hotline has been created by federal authorities designated for information relating to civil rights abuses happening at Federal Correctional Complex (FCC) Hazelton.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office is asking anyone who may have witnessed or were victims of abuse while incarcerated at FCC Hazelton, which is located in Bruceton Mills, to come forward with their information.

Witnesses or victims of any such crimes are asked to contact federal prosecutors in the Northern District of West Virginia by calling 1-855-WVA-FEDS, or by sending an email to [email protected].

The creation of the hotline was annouced Tuesday by United States Attorney for West Virginia’s Northern District Bill Ihlenfeld.

U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland last month, calling for an investigation into allegations of abusive treatment of incarcerated individuals and other employee misconduct at Hazelton.
