Clarksburg JATC agrees to settlement in sex discrimination case

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. – The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has announced a $150,000 settlement in a sex discrimination case involving the Clarksburg Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC).

An investigation by the EEOC determined the JATC used a panel interview and rank-order selection process that denied three applicants admission into the program because they were females.

As part of the settlement, the JATC will also be required to admit the three females into the program and hire an expert to recommend changes to the selection process. Additionally, the JATC will provide a new opportunity for a class of female applicants to re-interview for admission.

“Clarksburg Electrical JATC offers a pathway to union membership and access to a good career in the Clarksburg area,” said EEOC Philadelphia District Director Jamie R. Williamson. “The EEOC commends the apprenticeship and training program for its openness to resolving these charges in a way that will give more qualified female candidates access to these opportunities.
