MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A political newcomer has announced an effort to run for a seat on the Monongalia County Commission. Charles David Hartzog, 19, is an economics student at WVU.

Hartzog said more action must be taken with the DOH to complete road repairs. He also said he would take a second look at the large investment in broadband expansion.

“While it is a popular idea, it does have a few kinks,” Hartzog said. ” Like, why are we working on cellular data when people around here just don’t have the money for it.”

Hartzog said a shift in priorities could benefit more county residents and become an economic windfall.

“What we really need is to spend money on more basic necessities,” Hartzog said. ” Cleaning the water, getting the roads done and possibly funding a business that will ultimately bring more money into the county, more jobs and more tax revenue.”

He’ll run against incumbent Sean Sikora in the May Primary. Senator Bob Beach is the only Democrat in the race.

The deadline to register to vote in the May Primary is April 19.
