WVU and Hodge agreed to a five-year contract, according to MetroNews.
βRoss Hodge is a proven winner and leader who has demonstrated success at every stop of his career,β WVU Director of Athletics Wren Baker said. βHe has won more than 80% of his games as a head coach while establishing himself as one of the best defensive minds in college basketball. His teams play with toughness and grit and Mountaineer Nation will love the passion his players have for the game. More importantly, Ross is an incredible person and family man. His wife, Shelly, along with their children, Emery and Reed, will be great assets to our community and state. Please join me in welcoming the Hodge Family to Almost Heaven!β
Hodge has a 46-23 record as head coach at North Texas University. He spent six seasons working under then UNT head coach Grant McCasland, now Texas Tech’s head coach.
The Mean Green are in the NIT Final Four with a 27-8 record.
WVU finished 19-13 under Darian DeVries and were widely considered as a universal snub from the NCAA Tournament. DeVries left for the open head coaching position at Indiana University last week.
The Mountaineers declined post-season play.
