MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Interruptions in federal funding are preventing some PhD students at West Virginia University from continuing research and advanced education.
In a statement the institution said “unforeseen budgetary challenges resulting from proposed cuts to federal research funding” the Health Sciences Office of Research and Graduate Education has forced them to limit admission to the PhD program.
Funding for the indirect costs research has been suspended. Indirect costs are facilities operation and construction expense, equipment, travel, communications, and maintenance.
It is not known how many students are affected by the move.
Officials have met with students and faculty in affected the programs, and have pledged to continue support existing students, staff, and their research.
Executive leadership of the university continue to work with elected officials to reinstate the funding.
