MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Former North Marion head football coach Gerry White has died. The school announced his passing on Thursday. He was 72.
White led the Huskies from 1991 to 2008. He took over for two-time state champion coach Roy Michael. White’s teams advanced to postseason play nine times in his first twelve seasons as head coach.
North Marion won the Class AAA state championship in 1997 with a 16-6 win over Parkersburg. It was the third state title in school history. White also led NMHS to the state semifinals in 1996 and three other quarterfinal appearances.
Current North Marion head coach Daran Hays played for White prior to his graduation in 2003.
