WESTON, W.Va. — A 29-year-old Pittsburgh man is behind bars after a pursuit early Sunday morning with speeds reaching 115 miles per hour.
A deputy from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop the vehicle driven by Francisco Sanchez around 1:54 a.m. in Weston. The deputy said Sanchez drove the wrong way on local streets before turning onto U.S. Route 33 and ultimately Interstate 79 traveling at speeds of up to 105 miles per hour.
Deputies from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department attempted to stop Sanchez with stop sticks, but he swerved into the median and back into the northbound lane and speeding up to 115 miles per hour. At mile marker 119-mile marker, a Clarksburg Police Officer successfully used a stop stick and flattened a rear tire, still Sanchez continued to flee at speeds of up to 90 miles per hour.
Sanchez exited I-79 at Meadowbrook and ran a red light turning onto Meadowbrook Road. The car lost a tire but continued to travel at speeds of up to 65 miles per hour. The pursuit ended when the driver attempted to turn onto Dunnam Lane and crashed.
