MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A single-vehicle fatal wreck on I-79 is under investigation in Monongalia County.
The incident occurred in a construction zone northbound Monday night.
First responders were called to the scene about one-quarter mile south of the Goshen Road exit around 8 p.m.
Investigators believe the northbound vehicle entered a construction equipment staging area on the right side of the roadway just before the Tom’s Run bridge and hit a stationary excavator.
One person was killed. Investigators have not yet identified the victim.
The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
