CHARLESTON, W.Va. –– All of West Virginia will be in a deep freeze for the next 24 hours and beyond. An Arctic front is pushing into West Virginia and will cause temperatures this evening and overnight to plunge.
“We’re going to see low temperatures statewide drop into the single digits across the lower elevations. Across the mountain counties the air temperature is actually going to be in the lower single digits to just below zero,” said Meteorologist Simone Lewis at the National Weather Service in Charleston.
As the front pushes through the wind chills will produce “feels like” temperatures well below zero.
The NWS recommended no extended exposure to those temperatures and if you do need to be out to dress in layers and keep all skin from being exposed to the elements for any lengthy period of time.
Lewis said the coldest of the front will be early Tuesday morning. She added, while not as cold as Tuesday, Wednesday will be frigid as well.
She said it was too early to declare with any certainty the chance of a snow storm headed toward West Virginia for the weekend.
“We really won’t know for a few more days when hopefully things come into better alignment, but one thing to note this weekend is we are looking at cold conditions taking hold once again with cold wind chills possible again,” said Lewis.
Some early weather models have shown West Virginia getting significant snowfall for the weekend, but other models forecasted the storm to go south and west of the state.
