FAIRMONT, W.Va. — A former professional football player is facing charges of drug possession in Marion County.
Rashod Kent, 45, of Fairmont, is facing two charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office took Kent into custody on Morgantown Avenue in Fairmont due to an expired registration.
Deputies claimed a strong odor of marijuana was coming from the car. They searched the vehicle and found 113 grams of marijuana, 28 grams of fentanyl and cash.
The investigators said Kent attempted to flee on foot. He was apprehended.
Kent is a former college basketball player. He spent five seasons at Rutgers from 1998 to 2002. He later converted to football following a trend of basketball players attempting to make the league at the tight end position. Kent spent two seasons in the Houston Texans organization, which included one season in NFL Europe.
