PHILIPPI, W.Va. — A Moatsville man is going to serve the maximum allowable sentence for burning down a home while his family was inside.
Judge Thomas B. Hoxie sentenced Brian Hardy, 27, two years after the original incident from Nov. 9, 2023.
Hardy was seen splashing a substance against the outside of a Barbour County home with adults and children present. Hardy accepted an Alford Plea, meaning he acknowledges the prosecution had enough evidence to convict while still maintaining his innocence.
He had originally been facing eight counts of attempted murder when indicted in 2024.
One person sustained burns as a result of the fire.
