CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A 34-year-old man is facing charges after police said he left a child alone in a garage for a week without food, water, a bathroom, supervision of medical care.
Deputies from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department went to the home of Juan Jose Benitez-Chacon on a tip and found the child in the garage.
The child told deputies he was left in the garage with nothing and no timetable for when Benitez-Chacon would return.
The child also told deputies neighbors did provide help to him during the day, but at night there was no help.
Benitez-Chacon has been charged with child neglect, creating risk of injury and is currently being held in the North Central Regional Jail on a $100,000 bond.
