SALEM, W.Va. — The kayaker who died Friday in the Salem area has been identified as a former standout football and track star from Robert C. Byrd High School.
Jermodd Rashod “Rha Rha” Garrett, 31, of Clarksburg, went missing on Dog Run Lake late Friday morning, first responders were dispatched after witnesses reported Garrett calling for help. His body was recovered Friday evening after an extensive search.
Garrett graduated from Robert C. Byrd High school in 2013 where he was an all-state performer in track and football. He earned Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2013 and also served as a member of the West Virginia National Guard for seven years.
Garrett leaves behind a wife and three children.
