WESTON, W.Va. — A man is charged with stealing a jeep from a Harrison County car lot and leading police on a pursuit.
The Lewis County Sheriff’s Department was notified about the theft of a 2024 Jeep Wagoneer from Black Bear Chrysler Jeep RAM Thursday afternoon.
Just before 2 p.m., deputies observed the vehicle traveling north on Center Avenue in Weston. When deputies attempted a traffic stop near the intersection of Center and East Fourth Avenue, the driver, later identified as Joshua Wayne Merritt, fled.
Deputies said Merritt continued to flee through the intersection of Center and East Sixth Street while operating the stolen vehicle with reckless disregard.
Merritt was stopped and arrested at the north end of Center Avenue by deputies from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department.
Merritt has been charged with felony fleeing with reckless indifference and grand larceny and is being held in the Central Regional Jail.
