FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Olympic gold medalist and West Virginia native Mary Lou Retton was charged with DUI earlier this month.
Retton, 57, was pulled over in Fairmont on May 17. She is charged with misdemeanor DUI.
A family member posted Retton’s $1,500 bond the day she was charged.
Retton, who won gold in women’s gymnastics in the 1984 Olympics, was reported to be near death in the fall of 2023.
Retton’s daughters revealed that she was in an intensive care unit with a rare form of pneumonia and “fighting for her life. She is not able to breathe on her own.”
Retton would later recover and thanked those who reached out to help her, including those who provided financial help.
Retton will be back in court at a later date.
