CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Legendary ESPN broadcaster Mike Patrick, 80, died Sunday in Fairfax, Virginia.
Clarksburg-born, Patrick was one of the most well-known broadcasters in U.S. history. He worked at ESPN from 1982 through 2017, including stints on ESPN’s Sunday Night Football, college football coverage and NCAA women’s basketball tournament coverage.
Patrick also was a staple on NCAA College World Series coverage from 2003 to 2014. He retired from full-time work following the 2017 Liberty Bowl.
He began his broadcasting career not far from his home state in small Somerset, Pennsylvania at WVSC. He would later broadcast games for Jacksonville University, University of Maryland football, the Washington Redskins and Cleveland Browns.
Patrick died of natural causes.
