BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — A two vehicle accident in Upshur County leaves one man dead, a woman injured, and another man facing charges of driving under the influence.
The Upshur County Sheriff’s Department said the crash happened Monday at the intersection of U.S. Route 33 and Kesling Mill Road. One driver ran a red light and struck a vehicle turning off the highway and onto Kesling Mill Road.
The driver who ran the red light was identified as Matthew Whitehead, 27, of Belington. Deputies said he struck the vehicle driven by Michelle Wright of Buckhannon. She was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown for injuries suffered in the crash. The passenger in her vehicle, Kenneth Wright, later died at a local hospital of his injuries.
Whitehead is charged with one count of DUI causing death and one count of DUI causing serious bodily injury. Both charges are felonies. He is lodged in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
