CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A 25-year law enforcement veteran was indicted by a federal grand jury in Charleston Tuesday for child pornography crimes.
Kenneth McCord, 55, was indicted on four counts of child pornography. He was arrested by the FBI in March.
McCord served as a sergeant with the West Virginia State Police for more than 20 years before retiring in 2019. He then took on the role of a senior investigator for the West Virginia Commission of Special Investigations.
An investigation into McCord’s activities began in Orange County, California, in mid-February. The investigation started after one of the alleged victims spoke on sexually explicit messages she believed were exchanged between her teenage son and an adult man.
According to an FBI agent, the mother said she saw multiple nude and sexually explicit images on her son’s iPad that had been sent by the unidentified male. The conversation dated back to December 30, 2024, according to the agent. The teenage boy had the man’s contact saved as “Ken.”
The federal indictment accuses McCord of possessing child pornography. It also shows that there are two minors in the case.
