After 17 years, the 32nd head coach in the history of Mountaineer football is returning to the sidelines.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Wednesday that Rich Rodriguez and West Virginia are working on securing a deal that would make Rodriguez the 36th head coach in program history.
Rodriguez led WVU to a 60-26 record across seven seasons at the helm from 2001 to 2007.
The return of the man fans refer to as ‘Rich Rod’ comes on the heels of a three-year stint at Jacksonville State, leading the Gamecocks to a Conference USA Championship last week in a 52-12 win over Western Kentucky.
Rodriguez oversaw Jacksonville State’s transition from FCS to FBS football. He went 27-10 in his time there.
