SALEM W.Va. — Salem University is celebrating a major milestone with the arrival of its largest class of new students since 2018.
The Harrison County -based school announced this week that 550 new students have joined the campus this fall, pushing total enrollment to over 900 students. This growth reflects the university’s dedication to providing a high-quality education and building an active, engaged academic environment.
This incoming class is a diverse group, bringing together a variety of backgrounds and perspectives that will contribute to the university’s community.
“We are thrilled at the response from our community in our academic programs and NCAA Division II opportunities for students.” Salem President Paul Weber said.
Salem’s Fall 2024 class represents a more than 20% increase in enrollment compared to last year. The university credits much of its success to partnerships with local organizations, which has provided scholarships for many students throughout the university. About 7% of this year’s students enrolled through these partnerships, reinforcing the university’s commitment to accessible education.
“We’re committed to making higher education more accessible,” said Dr. LaQueda Taulton, VP of Partnerships at Salem University, said in a news release for the school. “Our partnerships are a testament to this commitment,” she said. “This strategic move aims to expand educational access and reinforce community bonds.”
Salem said it’s defying national trends by staying open and growing. Weber said there will be ongoing efforts to grow and strengthen the university’s academic and athletic programs.
