BELINGTON, W.Va. –– A 28-year old Belington woman has been charged with child abuse and child neglect. She is accused of hitting one child and failing to report injuries to another.
Deputies with the Barbour County Sheriff’s Department responded Sunday the home of Jenny Peters on River Avenue and learned she had been in a verbal argument with another person.
Because of an active Child Protective Services investigation, a child welfare worker also responded to the scene.
Peters told deputies she had slapped one of the children in her care and another child had suffered a head injury an hour before police arrived and had been vomiting.
Peters told deputies she was not watching the children while they were playing and the child suffered the head injury when he was pinned against a wall with a dresser, according to the sheriff’s department.
Peters also told deputies she did not attempt to call for medical help for the child or seek medical assistance, according to the department. The juvenile had an open laceration about an inch long that was swelling.
Peters is being held in Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $20,000 bond.
