MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The man charged in connection with a July murder in Monongalia County waived his preliminary hearing Friday.
Arnold Johnson, III, 19, of Montgomery Village, Md., is charged with first degree murder in the July 11 shooting death of Rashad Alton.
His body was found in a Mountain Valley Drive residence.
The decision to waive Friday’s hearing will send the charges to a grand jury for consideration. The next scheduled grand jury in Monongalia County is next month.
Johnson remains in the North Central Regional Jail without bail.
It’s believed Johnson fled to the Washington, D.C. area following the shooting, but returned and turned himself in to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department on Aug. 7.
The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department is continuing its investigation.
