MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A Texas man charged in a Morgantown murder has waived his preliminary hearing Monday sending the case to a Monongalia County grand jury for consideration.

Jonathan Ramirez (WVRJA)

Morgantown police charged Jonathan Ramirez, 23, of Watauga, Texas, with first-degree murder in the Jan. 16 death of Learfield/Mountaineer Sports Properties worker Jacob Lough.

Morgantown Police Chief Eric Powell said Lough’s body was found on the floor of his Milford Street apartment by a co-worker.

Lough’s family said they’ve been told he was stabbed in the back, neck and head.

Ramirez is being held in the North Central Regional Jail without bond.

The next grand jury in Monongalia County is scheduled to convene in May.

Lough, 26, a native of Ashburn, Va., was remembered in a funeral rash last Saturday.
